you can often change it in the ini file for the program too.

The motherboard card may well work for that as long as the program doesn't
need the default card. That is the problem with many programs is that they
need the default card. I don't know what the answer is, but heard from
someone that it can be dealt with to force apps to use the output you want
with some cards, probably more professional stuff.
