Now, having turned on both RTS and DTR, the mode is altering.
I can't however, seem to be able to change frequency using the numeric
keyboard nor the number row keys.

David,
I don't have a K3 but it works fine with my KX3. Just go to the rig
interface settings and choose Elecraft, select the comm port to which the K3
is connected, and set the baud rate (I recommend 38.4). All should just work
after that.
