hey guys, I'm considering building a long wire antenna. mainly, because
I want to, and to see if I can.
my question is, can I simply attach a predetermined length of wire, say,
roughly 40 meters, to the centre core of the coax and be done with it,
or do I need to have some kind of counterpoise in place?
I could always just solder the wire itself to the centre pin of a pl-259
and hope for the best, but, I've no wish to burn the bum out of a radio.
I've considered winding a 12:1 balun to negate the need for
counterpoise, but, I don't know how well that would work, and I dont'
have the patients to do that at the moment.
I realise that somewhere in the mix, I'll need a tuner, but, I'm not too
worried about that just yet. I need to get a radio first, haha.
if anybody's built a long wire or similar, I would appreciate your input.
another thing that is of interest to me, is how high, or rather how low
I can have the thing before I should give up on getting any kind of
signal out.
I'm restricted to 4 meters by she-who-must-be-obeyed.
I'm thinking of having the thing gently slope up to the 4 meter mark.
thanks in advance.
