What we have here, is a businessman radio. That's what this manufacture makes. I think the amateur radio service was, and still is, an afterthought. The reason why these radios have some speech, is probably due to hands-free laws and most of the states of the union now, so it makes good business sense to start building some speech into the radios for that purpose. This is a good example of a problem that has a business viable solution. I guess what I'm trying to say here is that when the solution works for everyone else and we are somewhat of an afterthought, this is a very good thing. It leads to lower prices for us. Again I must agree with the last poster this is a good thing though now if I could just get this radio to take frequency input on-the-fly, this would be great especially when I have to figure out what frequency to change to to cross than when mother nature wants to play rough, here in Colorado.
