These posts were from sometime back a few months but they seem to fit the
current discussion.

Scott and anyone else interested in this topic,

If you look in the TM-V71A manual, you'll find that it is possible to
control several aspects of the radio's operation with DTMF tones. To
enable/disable this function, turn the radio off, then press the Rev button
and turn the radio back on while holding the button down. The Rev button is
the fourth one from the left in the group of buttons along the bottom of the
front panel. Once this mode has been enabled, you will not be able to use
any of the controls on the radio including the PTT, so you'll have to
control everything via tones.

There is a chart in the manual which lists all the DTMF commands, and I'll
make a text file available to anyone who wants it, probably as a public link
in Dropbox.

The manual explains the sequence of tones you need to use, but one thing
you'll have to do before any of this will work is to set up an access code
in the TM-V71A to tell the radio that the next tones are intended as
commands. Again, all of this is explained in the manual, so please look it
up before bombarding me with questions.

I found it useful to store some command sequences in the DTMF memories of
the TH-F6A, which is most easily done by using the programming cable and
software. This isn't absolutely necessary, but I found it a lot more
convenient than trying to key in the command sequences manually.

For those of you who would rather not use DTMF tones to enable/disable
crossband repeat, you can do so manually by turning the radio off, pressing
and holding the Tone/CTCSS button (the third one from the left), and turning
the radio on. Again, this will disable all the controls on the radio
including the PTT.

I'll be happy to answer questions, but for the sake of my sanity, please
read the manuals first.

Steve
