Hi Pat,
I figured I'd have to connect the electronic keyer to the straight key jack 
on the rig.

The Kenwood TS480SAT has a jack for this and one for connecting a paddle.

I'm having a sighted ham buddy come over on Sunday to help hook up the Icom.

If it doesn't have a straight key jack I'm sure there is some setting on the 
menu that can be programmed for that.
