Hi Eric.  I know what you mean.  It's also hard when neither of the two 
major organizations supposedly of the blind are effective advocates for us.

Californians can thank their dear friend the late Ed Roberts who felt that 
the blind had enough and chose to concentrate all his efforts on other 
disability groups back in the 70's.
