Well, it probably can be configured to work with Echolink, if you open ports
5198 and 5199. The only gripe I have with the free version of ZoneAlarm is
it always comes up with those damn dialog boxes every time something wants
to connect to your PC or you want to make a new external port connection.
That's fine in itself, except that I found it was difficult to use it with
JFW (at least with JFW 3.7), since most of the dialogs are only accessible
with the Jaws cursor in unrestricted mode. Sometimes, it was impossible to
find the button to either allow or deny a connection.

For that reason, I'd recommend Kerio or Seagate as a better free firewall.

Personally, I use the Norton Internet Security suite, which has its own
firewall. It scans your PC and recognizes what software that needs to
connect to the Internet and pretty much pre-configures itself. If you need
to write new rules, of course, you can do that. The main problem I had with
Echolink is when I defined the ports in my router, E-L still wouldn't work.
I had to open my router up to this PC in DMZ mode, but since I have the
firewall, my PC is still protected from hackers.

Take my advice, I don't use it anyway.

Hi all on list. I just downloaded the software call Zone alarm and was
wondering is anyone using this? Will it work with a screen-reader like
JAWS? If I install this software, will it function with Echolink? If
anyone can help, You get a gold star in my book Thanks Gary KB2YAA.
