Got me, Brett, what is a snake?

As for phasing, supposedly if they are out of phase, there'll be a kind of hollow sound.

I use either speaker cables or lamp zip chord where one side is ribbed so I usually don't have a problem properly phasing my receiver and the various speakers.

I have forgotten or old timers disease is really hitting hard this
afternoon, but how does one phase (aurally) a set of stereo speakers? I
regularly do a tactile indication when setting up a new system but have
not done a new system for such a long time now and cannot recall. =20

Ideally I would use a snake but this system is strictly spring tab
  terminated.
