Russ,

The stream works very well for listening to books including nls and also 
books in the standard mp3 format.  Also, it makes rather good recordings 
if you need that.  It's really not a notetaker, but then what you get 
really depends on just what you want to do and how much you're willing 
to spend.

For the money, I think the stream is a really good machine, especially 
with sdhc card prices getting quite reasonable.
