some of the higher quality mono banders cost that much.
and you wouldn't want to know the cost of a log periodic HF beam.
the hex beam is nearly the perfect answer for a city lot due to its nearly 
non-existent turning radius.  And super light and you save big money on a 
tower and roter with this antenna...other cheaper beam antennas require far 
more expensive roters and a tower of some kind, or tri-pod to support them.
This hex beam can go at the top of a push up on the fence if you want.
one always pays for convenience.
