    Steve:

Actually, I haven't placed the order yet, but our friend Kevin (K7RX)
advised me to go this route.

What I'm using the parallel interface for is to transmit the CW. The other
end of the parallel port connector will be connected to the straight key
jack on the TS480.

I originally had thought of doing it via a serial port, but Kevin felt that
there might be problems if I used a serial port connection for CW
transmitting, and another one for rig control later on. He said something
about IRQ issues.

Again, I haven't yet placed the order, and don't want to put Kevin on the
spot here, but am just thinking out loud in response to your question.

I can always be persuaded otherwise, because I have an open and still
somewhat intelectually sound mind for an old professor working rapidly
toward retirement. (grin)

Hopefully, Kevin can weigh in on this and clarify the arguments if I haven't
made sense here.

Tom,

Sorry I can't help with your wild card question, but just curious: Why
did you choose to go parallel port cw? Hasn't that gone the way of the
dodo bird? What OS are you running? Enquireing minds want to know.
