Well, I got my 480 the end of 2010 so I guess it's up to date.
Thanks, Jim, WA6EKS

Jim,

Not sure they can tell you what is on your radio, but the last
firmware
update is 1.04 from Nov. 2008.

You can bring up the version number on the display if you have a
pair of
eyes to read it.

If you go here:

http://www.kenwood.com/i/products/info/amateur/software_download.
html

you can click on the link for the firmware update program for the
480
and see a list of what was added in each update, as well as full
instructions.

Thanks Howard, I think the first thing I will do is call HRO and
ask them which firmware I have in my 480. Jim WA6EKS

It's been a long time, The first thing is to see what version of
 the
firmware is currently installed. Then you follow the
 instructions which
include taking off the top cover, finding a little slide switch,
 moving it,
hooking the ts480 up to a computer with the cereal port and a
 cord, and
 running the software update program.
I can't remember more than that, its been maybe four years, and
I
 have no
idea what I did yesterday. Oldtimers desease I guess.
I can look for more info, but maybe somebody else can add to my
 information.
