butch. don't lock out the control channel. You need to have thescanner scan
it to tell it where to listen. I think he took the scanner out of trunking
mode. He just needs to push the button under the manual button that toggles
between trunk and conventional. If you are in conventional mode, you will
hear the noise of the control channel.
