Oh, I definitely understand that it's a viable mode of communication. I just
meant that it seems that the exams themselves will be nonexistent now, not
the mode itself.

That's interesting about being able to string up indoor wire antennas even
in apartments. Everything I'm reading seems to be cautioning against indoor
antennas at all, it's getting me worried even about running my magmount with
the kenwood on UHF/VHF! I suppose it does make sense though if the power is
kept really low.

Hi Christi,

Well, CW is still a viable mode of communications.

1. for times when band conditions are poor--either sporadically or during
the low part of the solar cycle;
2. people in crowded neighborhoods who can't use high power and large
antenna arrays can still enjoy DX communications using micro power and CW;
3. people living in apartments where no antennas are permitted outdoors can
string up indoor wire antennas, use low power, and make DX contacts using
CW.

(I know there's a few advantages I forgot but I'm tired now <g>!)

So, I'm assuming this means there will be no CW exams at all, even if a
person was interested in CW, right? they would just get the license and do
CW where allowed? Kind of pointless to take an exam that won't give you
anything special. Or am I missing something?

I definitely still want to learn, though it's not like I'll be able to do HF
any time soon considering I live in an apartment, heh.

Btw, anyone know a site that lists the various operating privs in some kind
of accessible format? I saw one, I think on the fcc site itself, but
couldn't make heads or tails out of it the way it was formatted.

Don't know when it takes effect, but no more cw exams, boys and girls.
Also looks like techs will get some hf.
