---------------------

1 Posted by June 7, John Berry, incoming President of the American Library
Association discusses the exciting new policy passed by the ALA about
providing access to consumers with disabilities. EASI congratulates John
and the ALA for this monumental policy move. We are proud to have John as
our first interview in June.

John said, "Well, it was a policy that is called Library Services for
People with
Disabilities and it was adopted on January 16, 2001 by acclimation by the
ALA council. We were very happy that it was so uniformly adopted, Without
any contentiousness whatsoever. The full text of the policy is on the ALA
site: http://www.ala.org."
Interview will be at http://easi.cc and select webcasts or site index.

2 posted by June 14, Cynthia Waddell, a nationally recognized lawyer on
Internet and disability issues, discusses disability legislation, the
Internet and education

She commented, "It appears the the US has reached a significant crossroad
where our polocies, technology and purchasing choices will determine
whether or not every person will
participate in the digital economy. The explosive growth of electronic
commerce continues
to erect new barriers to participation for people with disabilities as well
as for
anyone without the latest, state of the art, technology."
Interview will be at http://easi.cc

3 Posted by June 21, Steve Noble, a Policy Analyst for the Kentucky
Assistive Technology Service Network, comments on Section 508 and distance
learning.

Steve comments on the coming impact of Section 508: "All states have
previously issued assurances from the governor's office that they will
abide by section 508. The states have finally realized that they signed
those forms and they are going to be obliged to comply with section 508,
but we're still waiting for the Department of Education as well as the
Justice department to issue
policy guidelines on this matter."
Interview will be at: http://easi.cc

4 To be posted on June 28, Geoff Freed from WGBH National Center on
Accessible Media discusses several media projects located at WGBH.

Geoff commented that "We have several projects at NCAM, here at WGBH, and
we have several programs that look at making multimedia access in distance
learning. All of these programs have a
multimedia component. So what I will do is discuss two or three of them."
Interview will be at http://easi.cc
