This EASI Web conference presentation will offer a holistic approach to
creating accessible libraries of all types. The initial (free) workshop
will present
the topics in brief and lead to a discussion with potential participants in
the program. This initial overview will be followed by four fee-based workshops
which will continue in depth on the topics during the month of June.
(See the description below).

With the coming of the information age, people with disabilities have
access as never before to publications and can now become regular on-site
and on-line
users of libraries.

The series presenters include:

Susan Gilbert Beck of Emanda, Inc.
Susan has had approximately 28 years of library work experience that
encompass all the library types, including a cooperative. Her graduate
studies focused
on management and accessibility. She was a fellow of the University of
Michigan and the University of Illinois, and received her undergraduate
degree from
Kutztown State University in Pennsylvania. She is also a member of the
Rehab Engineers' Society of North America.

Linda Lucas Walling
Linda is a well-respected author, consultant and retired library school
professor from the University of South Carolina. She will offer discussions
as part
of the workshops on the status of the library and services to consumers
with disabilities.

Patricia is the Head of the University of Michigan Dentistry Library and
the senior author/editor of the _Medical Library Association Encyclopedic Guide
to Searching and Finding Health Information on the Web_. Patricia's
research interests and consulting activities include web-accessibility,
patient information
seeking behaviors, search engines, informatics, and evidence-based health
information searching.

On completing the workshops, participants will know methods to:

Assess and improve the status of the library in the community through
A. Studying the clientele, seen and unseen
B. Empowering patrons and staff
C. Knowing the assets within and how other agencies might offer support.
D. Using materials or software and hardware to serve people with special
needs and/or interests.
E. Evaluate and use both educational and commercial websites.

Prepare to know and serve library clientele, seen and unseen, through

A. Studying the patrons
B. Policy and Procedure Building
C. Staff training and effective communication

Make the library's physical plant and information accessible through
A. Best practices in wayfinding
B. Best practices in marketing and educating clientele re services and
technologies
C. Best practices in budgeting
