There is a really good 40 minute video available from Library Video Network. The title is "People First: Serving and Employing People with Disabilities." http://www.lvn.org/catalog_page3.htm

Another video and resource guide available from LVN that looks useful: "AND ACCESS FOR ALL: ADA and Your Library" http://www.lvn.org/catalog.htm

A document that can provide good food for thought is the ALA "Library Services for People with Disabilities Policy": http://www.ala.org/ala/ascla/asclaissues/libraryservices.htm

A book that includes really good tip sheets for serving people with different disabilities is, "Planning for Library Services to People with Disabilities." Rhea Joyce Rubin. 2001. ISBN: 0-8389-8168-2. You can see ordering info at: http://www.ala.org/ASCLATemplate.cfm?Section=asclapubs

Good luck with your training!

Subject: ADA Training Materials Specifically for Library Staff?

Hi Folks,

I've been poking around looking for disability-related training materials
for an upcoming training for our library staff. I've found some books on the
subject, but nothing that really gives an overview of providing quality
public service to library patrons with disabilities. At this point I'd
settle for a pamphlet or guidelines to show folks. Does such a thing exist
before I go ahead and try to create one myself? I've scoured ALA's website,
but found nothing really. I also contacted ALA's Diversity department but
never heard back. Any tips on resources you all can provide would be great.

Tracy
