activities starting in January 2005:

1 The January 20 free, online, live Web conference will be an overview and

1 Free Clinic:Online Comparison of Creating Different Types of Streaming
Multimediaa,
An EASI, Live, Voice Chat Web Conference Jan. 20 2005 1 PM Eastern
Multimedia is a powerful tool because it combines both informational
content with emotional and psychological motivation. Because it uses
multiple sensory
communication modes, it also has the potential to simultaneously reach
people with various sensory disabilities. Auditory modes communicate well
with those
who are blind or have limited vision. Images and other visuals are well
suited to those who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. This free, online
presentation
will introduce participants to several different easy-to-use authoring
tools and creation methods that facilitate the creation of accessible
multimedia.
These include captioned, audio described video, narrated PowerPoint, High
Caption, Caption Keeper, MAGPie, eTEACH, SMIL and SAMI..
The presentation is aimed at 3 different audiences:

1. administrators and directors who need to understand accessible
multimedia to supervise others who will actually create it;
2. multimedia designers who need to know about accessibility but who do
well studying advanced technical material and who can master these tools
independently;
3. Designers of multimedia who want hands-on training and human support to
guide them through learning the use of these authoring systems.

This third group can use this introductory presentation to evaluate whether
the follow-up EASI 4-part tuition-based workshop on accessible multimedia will
benefit them.
2 Hands-on Accessible Multimedia Design: a 4-part Tuition-bearing Workshop
Starting February 12, EASI will provide a special workshop which will
provide step-by-step instruction in the creation of multimedia based in
principles
of universal design. . These live events will let the presenter actually
show his/her desktop to participants. Between presentations, participants can
replay the recorded presentation and practice each lesson. Anyone having
difficulties can meet the instructor online, and the teacher can actually
watch
the student's desktop and understand the specific problems being
encountered. These will be live, online voice chat presentations: February
12, February
19, February 26 and March 5 at 1 PM Eastern, noon Central, 11 AM Mountain
and 10 AM Pacific. Anyone wanting the workshop who cannot attend at these
times
will have access to recordings and can interact with the teacher by e-mail
or special appointment in the chat room. Registration for the 4-part series
is $95.

3 EASI's Information Technology and Disabilities E-journal is the only
peer-reviewed online e-journal focusing on disabilities and information
technology. It carries a wide selection of articles with some issues
focusing on special topics like libraries, science or math. The e--journal
has completed 10 years of providing the most current information on
advancements in accessible information technology. Besides being available
online, EASI is now making it available as a CD for purchase, ($39
including shipping), which is an especially rich resource for libraries and
for Disability Services Offices:

4 January 10 starts the online course: Train the Trainer, taught entirely
online, month-long and instructor-led.

Using Familiar Software which focuses on content authoring tools and
demonstrates to use them to achieve accessible online course content.
