JOB POSTING - San Francisco Public Library - Deaf Services Center

Applications are being accepted for a vacant part-time (20 hours)
3630 LIBRARIAN I position at the Main Library, Deaf ServicesCenter to be
filled by provisional appointment.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Under supervision performs beginning level
library work in the Deaf Services Center. The essential functions of this
position include providing assistance in the use of library materials
through reference and reading guidance services to patrons who are deaf or
hard of hearing, their families and associates, professionals, sign
language students and interpreters and others who desire to serve the
community; assisting supervising librairnas to build and maintain print and
non-print materials collections; working with staff in planning,
publicizing, executing and evaluating programs (i.e. storytime for Deaf
children), activities and events designed to attract patrons to the public
library and to acquaint them with its services; promoting productive
relations with community agencies; participating in staff and professional
development meetings or workshops; working on special projects individually
or cooperatively; may perform other job-related duties as required. The
salary range for this 20-hour position is $884-$1,075 (bi-weekly);
$1,924-$2,339 (mo9nthly; $23,085-$28,070 (annually). This position also
includes benefits.

WORK SCHEDULE: The regular work schedule for this position includes weekend
and evening hours. The appointee to this position must be willing to work
this schedule when required to do so.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Possession of a Malters in Library and information Sciences (MLIS) from
an ALA-accredited institution.
-AND-
- Possession of fluency in American Sign Language (a language test may be
administered to verify sign language skills.)

Desirable skills:
- Prior experience working with Deaf and hard-of-hearing persons.
- The ability to work a flexible schedule.
- Computer skills including working knowledge of DRA, database searching
and the Internet
- The ability to work effectively with co-sorkers and patrons of all ages.
