This workshop led by Norm Coombs and Dick Banks of EASI describes some
tools and ideas for making web sites more accessible for people with
disabilities tools and ideas that faculty, staff and students at your
institution can learn in minutes.

One: What Is IT Accessibility and How Can I know If My Content IsAccessible?
This presentation will cover these topics:
Problems of IT accessibility for people with different disabilities
Solutions that enable people with disabilities to access IT
How can I evaluate the accessibility of my content
Where can I learn how to easily design accessible course content

Two: Creating Accessible Content Using Microsoft Office
This presentation will cover these topics:
Access problems of Excel, Word and PowerPoint
Microsoft Office Content access
problems when saving its output for the Web
Microsoft Office accessibility wizard and how it works


Three: Making Online Narrated PowerPoint Presentations More Accessible
This presentation will cover these topics:
How to create streaming multimedia for the Web
How to use SMIL to add captions and audio descriptions
How to improve accessibility by careful advance design
Adding description of visuals for users who are blind
Adding transcription for users who are deaf

This is an online workshop that will offer a combination of materials and
activities available through telecommunications (including but not
necessarily limited to the Internet).  Three weekly interactive synchronous
events (and complete archives of them), other synchronous and asynchronous
online tools and activities, and other online resources will be accessible
through the TLT Group's Learning Times Network workspace.
AUDIENCE
Administrators, Center for Teaching Excellence staff, those involved with
institutional effectiveness, as well as faculty.

Since this workshop takes place completely online, participants will be
encouraged to correspond through a variety of communications tools
including discussion boards, email, and chat. Reading material on the
featured topic will be provided prior to the start of each week.  The
weekly synchronous Webcasts will offer all participants the opportunity to
engage in a shared discussion on that topic.  Following each Webcast, the
participants will have opportunities to work together online and share
their own experiences, insights, and problems.
