Dear List Members:

Clarification re people-first language advocacy.

- It is NOT about being P.C. (whatever P.C. means)

- It IS about people who do things differently* [PWDs] being perceived and
treated AS PEOPLE/PEOPLE with civil [=people] rights -- rather than
"disabled"=nonfunctioning objects, the latter which historically sadly has been
the case.

(*doing things differently being what having a "disability/differability" is
all about)

Those of us who have first-hand experience know how precious being perceived as
people, individuals with feelings, hopes, desires, and dreams really is,
especially for our self-respect and dignity. Thanks to the universal aging
process, virtually everyone else learns to appreciate the same sooner or later.

Thank you, Susan. "See" references are made every day of the week by
librarians and information professionals:

"Handicapped" See: "People with disabilities"
