A particularly poignant example of inaccessibility to me was the
presentation of awards, some of which were the Schneider Family Book
awards celebrating the disability experience for kids being presented on
a stage with steps to climb up to get the awards. Are we really so sure
no authors who are wheelchair users will win the awards? Kathie

I respectfully second Ellen's suggestion. I would add that I attended
more than one program at the annual conference and was disappointed to
see that programs concerning disability issues particularly one
addressing the issue of discrimination, had the presenters seated on a
stage that was not accessible.

Accessible signage for the entire conference was non-existent and
information regarding the conference was difficult to find in an
accessible format.

ALA needs to be a strong advocate in the goal to make libraries
accessible to all users.

Dear Colleagues:

ALA has e-mailed members a survey concerning planning the future of
ALA's Campaign for America's Libraries.

In completing the (fully accessible?) survey may I encourage reminding
ALA of its own Accessibility Policy
(http://www.ala.org/ala/ourassociation/governingdocs/policymanual/librar
yper
sonnel.htm#54.3.2),
the need for ALA to fully practice and promote this policy, and under
promotion of literacy, the inclusion of Braille and ASL literacy.
