Librarian - Reference

Buffalo State College is seeking a dedicated and energetic librarian who
thrives in a rapidly evolving environment to join our reference team.
Duties include serving at the reference desk which requires both traditional
and virtual reference skills, coordinating information literacy instruction,
teaching in an electronic and distance learning environment, contributing to
the development of the library's Web site, and participating in print and
electronic collection development.  This position requires a strong
commitment to public service, the ability to work collaboratively, in a
group environment, and independently.  This position includes some evening
and weekend work.

Finalists invited for an interview must demonstrate communication skills and
knowledge of library practices or services through a presentation to library
faculty, staff and other members of the college community.

E. H. Butler Library actively supports the scholarship, research and
creativity of the students, faculty and staff at Buffalo State College. This
is a 12-month, tenure-track appointment with faculty rank and status.
Scholarship, applied research, and service are part of the academic
commitment.

Required Qualifications:  ALA-accredited masters degree in librarianship;
demonstrated proficiency with electronic and print library resources;
classroom teaching experience; commitment to student learning and the
ability to work effectively with a diverse student body, faculty and staff;
evidence of ability to successfully initiate and carry our projects;
excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Post-graduate experience; knowledge of basic
computer applications, experience with HTML, Web editing, distance learning,
multi-media formats.

Librarian - Automation Cataloger

Buffalo State College is seeking a professional cataloger with experience.
We seek a candidate who is a forward-looking individual with working
knowledge of online systems, current technologies and national and
international applications in bibliographic control.  The library maintains
a collegial atmosphere conducive to both independent and team excellence.
The position reports to the Assistant Director for Technical Services.

Duties include: cataloging electronic/digital materials using MARC formats;
managing MARC bibliographic, authority and holdings records in an online
catalog; supervising migration to Ex Libris Aleph from INNOPAC; assisting in
department operations as requested; participating in formation of local
cataloging policies and procedures.

Required Qualifications: ALA accredited masters degree in librarianship;
working knowledge of current cataloging standards (AACR2r, MARC tagging, LC
classification and LC subject headings); 3-5 years professional experience
with original and copy cataloging using bibliographic utility, preferably
OCLC, and integrated systems; experience cataloging electronic resources;
experience with authority control; familiarity with Metadata standards and
HTML; basic PC platform skills; excellent communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications: Academic library experience; knowledge of basic
networking; evidence of awareness of national and international trends and
applications in bibliographic control; demonstrated ability to work
independently and as part of a team; ability to think creatively; sustained
interest in evolving technologies

Position is a 12-month, tenure-track, library faculty appointment.  Rank and

Librarian - Systems

Buffalo State College is seeking an energetic and visionary systems
librarian who enjoys collaborating with other staff, faculty and students to
meet the technological challenges of higher education. This individual will
provide leadership in planning, budgeting, implementing, monitoring and
evaluating technology that supports the mission of the library; supervise
clerical and student personnel; work with computing services to manage and
maintain 85 patron workstations, an electronic classroom with 21 computers,
60 staff computers, and a cost-recovery digital printing network;
collaborate with a team of library staff to promote and enhance the use of
electronic resources; work at the reference desk; select materials for the
collection; and actively participate in regional and statewide technological
initiatives.
