EASI Roundtable Webcast Tonight
T. V. Raman Returns

EASI's weekly interview webcast will be posted Thursday October 1
9 pm Eastern, 8 Central 7 Mountain and 6 Pacific.
Look for it on the EASI web http://www.rit.edu/~easi

Raman continues to discuss the cutting edge of computing with 3 of his
favorite topics:
1 unix and access for blind users
2 Providing access to and the navigation of structured texts
3 the growing use of audio in computing.

Today electronic texts are usually accessed in a linear fashion like
reading an ancient scroll. A print book lets the reader jump to headers
and paragraphs and other format features. Software is being developed
that will permit this same power using a computer.

recent news articles have highlighted the universal move towards
computers that you can talk o and which will talk to you. There is also
experimantation with the use of sounds to fill a role similar to
a graphical interface. Instead of talking about icons, some have
invented the word, "earcons".
