EASIEvents for April and May
EASI is dedicated to providing jargon-free information on how to create
accessible information technology for schools, colleges, universities,
libraries, business and non-profits. This includes our Web site
(www.rit.edu/~easi) plus hour-long, live Internet instruction and
Web-based, month-long courses. Some of these events are free to the public
and others carry a registration fee.

Saturday, April 3, (60 minutes) Free Clinic: Adaptive Technologies for
Learning and Work Environments. Presenter Joseph Lazzaro who is also the
author of this excellent book.
Joe has written several books and articles on adaptive computer
technologies. He is also a published science fiction author. Joe is the
instructor for EASI's
online course, Train the Trainer.
April 8 (60 minutes) Free Clinic, "linux and Sun Accessibility Tools
Presenter: Peter Korn from Sun Microsystems
Sun's Gnome system contains free adaptive software called, Gnopernicus,
which combines a screen reader, screen magnification and an onscreen
keyboard.
April 22 Tuition-based Clinic: The Other Side of Section 508
Presenter: Doug Wakefield of the Federal Access Board. When anyone says,
"Section 508", everyone automatically thinks about the Federal Web
accessibility standards. However, there is a forgotten but very important
other side to these standards. Section 508 relates to access to electronic
information, and only one part relates to the Web. The other side relates
to equipment and electronic information at a physical location.

Monday, May 24, (60 minutes) Free Clinic: eCollege LMS System Customers
Discuss Accessibility successes and Problems. Presenters are: Peter
Cassidy from Westwood College and Sarah Bradford from eCollege, and the Web
conference is hosted by Dick Banks and Norman Coombs from
EASI. We want to highlight the fact that positive things are beginning to
happen. We want to hold up those struggling with accessibility to be role
models. We want to give a special welcome to eCollege users, but this is
open to everyone.
