Barrier-free Information Technology is an interactive, instructor-led,
month-long course tfunctioning entirely over the Internet. The course
provides the kind of overview to making an institution's computer and
information systems fully accessible to people with disabilities which is
needed to provide a level learning space for everyone. This wil enable a
school, university or other information provider to effectively serve this
special population as well as providing the know-how to meet
disability-related legislation such as the Rehabilitation Act Sections 504
and 508 as well as filling the requirements of the Americans with
Disabilities Act.

Syllabus and registration for the course's June offering are available at:
http://easi.cc/workshops/adaptit.htm

The Office for Civil Rights has stated that responsibility for providing
the technology needs of students with disabilities cannot be religated to
the Disabled Students Services Department. OCR stated that students belong
to the institution and that meeting their needs is a campus-wide
responsibility.

This online course provides an overview of the topic of adaptive computing
technology and is ideal for administrators, teachers, librarians, rehab
consultants, computer support staff, ADA compliance officers Disabled
student services staff and service providers. It is designed to provide
the broad knowledge of accessible information technology, the law and of
student technological and pedagogical needs that will facilitate
institution-wide institutional planning.

Those who take the course will receive a course certificate of completion
and, on request, will receive three continuing education units. It is one
of the five courses required to earn the Certificate in Accessible
Information Technology provided by EASI and the University of Southern Maine.

** Advanced Barrier-free Web Design is also offered during June.
