REISSUED PROVISIONAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY

The San Francisco Public Library invites applications for the following
vacant position:
CLASS, TITLE & LOCATION: 3630- Librarian I - Deaf Services Center - Main,
Part-time (20 hours)

APPOINTMENT TYPE: Provisional
Note:  In order to be considered for a permanent appointment to this
position the provisional appointee will be required to succeed in a Civil
Service Examination process for this class.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Under supervision of the Deaf Services Manager
performs beginning level professional library work. The essential functions
include providing assistance in the use of library materials through
reference and reading guidance services to patrons who are deaf or hard of
hearing, their families and associates, professionals, sign language
students and interpreters and others who desire to serve the community;
assisting supervising librarians to build and maintain print and non-print
materials collection; working with staff in planning, publicizing,
executing and evaluating programs (i.e. story time for deaf children),
activities and events designed to attract patrons to the public library and
to acquaint them with its services; promoting productive relations with
community agencies; participating in staff and professional development
meetings or workshops; working on special projects individually or
cooperatively; may perform other job related duties as required.

SALARY:  The salary range for a part-time position in this classification
is
$22.4500 - $27.2875 (hourly); $898.00 - $1,091.50 (biweekly); $1,953.00 -
$2374.00 (monthly); $23,438.00 - $28,488.00 (annually)


WORK SCHEDULE: The normal work schedule for this position may include
weekend and evening hours. The appointee to this position must be willing
to work this schedule.


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
*  Possession of a Masters of Library and Information Science (MLS or MLIS)
degree from a library accredited by the American Library Association
*  Possession of American Sign Language (ASL).  A language test may be
administered to verify ASL skills

DESIRABLE SKILLS:
*  Prior experience working with deaf and hard of hearing persons
*  The ability to work a flexible schedule
*  Computer skills including knowledge of DRA, database searching and the
Internet
*  The ability to work effectively with co-workers and patrons of all ages

VERIFICATION:
CURRENT INCUMBENTS in this Class 3630:
Current employees of the San Francisco Public Library who meet the minimum
Qualifications based entirely on their SFPL experience need not submit
verification.  If the qualifying experience is a combination of SFPL
experience and outside experience, then the outside experience must be
verified.

ALL NON-SFPL applicants:
All non-SFPL applicants must verify all required experience/education
needed to qualify.
EXPERIENCE verification must be on employer's letterhead and must show the
applicant, job title(s), duties performed, dates of service and must be
signed by the employer.
EDUCATION verification must be a MLS/MLIS degree or a copy of college
transcript demonstrating the required college course work.  Verification
may be waived if impossible to obtain.  Applicants must submit a signed
statement explaining why verification is impossible to obtain.  Waivers may
be granted on a case-by-case basis.
