EASI Opportunities in September

EASI has five events in September to highlight: 2 online courses and 3 
Webinar events.

The September courses are:
Barrier-free Information Technology
The emphasis in this month-long course will be on creating structures that 
will lead to the institution-wide system change as required by recent 
disability-related legislation.
The course will be useful for:
•	administrators,
•	ADA compliance officers
•	admissions officers
•	computer support staff,
•	instructional support staff,
•	online learning support staff
•	disability services staff,
•	faculty,
•	librarians

Creating and Repurposing More Accessible Content
Topics include:
•	A foundation for repurposing content
•	Globally accessible content rather than customized accommodation for each 
student.
•	Adaptive scanning technology.
•	Scanning and OCR [Optical Character Recognition] software [ and the 
process of creating digital content from print.
•	The importance of logical document structure or a logical reading order.
•	The role formatting plays in the understanding of content.
•	Braille
•	DAISY [Digital ]Accessible Information System].
•	NIMAS.

Tobi: a software tool to author DAISY multimedia |

Tobi is designed to ease the process of synchronizing a text document with 
human narration, including page numbers, hierarchical table of contents, 
images, footnotes, etc.

Fee-based 4-part Webinar: The 4 Secrets of Accessible Online Teaching
September 8, 15, 22 and 29
Presenters: Norm Coombs and Marisol Miranda
Times: 11 AM Pacific, Noon Mountain, 1 PM Central, 2 PM Eastern
Online learning is a complex mix of several technologies and several groups 
of faculty, staff and students. This Webinar series will focus on 4 
ingredients of this mix:
•	Accessibility and usability of the online interface
•	Organization and communication of the course content
•	Use of styles and semantic markup features in authoring tools
•	Verifying the accessibility of the course content
(EASI Annual Members access the fee-based Webinars as part of their membership)

The Dick Banks Memorial Scholarship provides a limited number of 
scholarships to the fee-based Webinars and courses for those unable to
