The San Francisco Public Library is recruiting for the following position:

CLASS & TITLE: 3630 LIBRARIAN I 
LOCATION: Main Library - Access Services (Deaf Services/Library on Wheels)
TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Permanent - Full-time 

In order to be considered for an appointment to this position, the
candidate will be required to succeed in a Civil Service Examination
process for this class.

SALARY RANGE
Biweekly - $1,932 -$2,348
Monthly - $4,186 -$5,087 
Annual - $50,232 -$61,048
Note: Librarian I's hired at the entry level step will receive a 5% step
increase in pay after six months of service.

WORK SCHEDULE
The regular work schedule for this position may include weekend and evening
hours. The appointee to this position must be willing to work this schedule.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Possession of a Masters of Library and Information Science (MLS or MLIS)
degree from a library school accredited by the American Library Association.
 
SPECIAL CONDITION
American Sign Language (A test may be administered to verify ASL skills)
 
FINAL CLOSING DATE: Open Until Filled
 
DESIRABLE SKILLS:
Ability to work effectively with persons of various cultures, languages, or
special needs 
Ability to select library materials for targeted population 
Knowledge of or the ability to learn the Internet and HTML language 
Familiarity with or the ability to learn on-line and CD-ROM resources and
use the Internet as a reference tool

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under general supervision of the program manager of the Deaf Services
Center of the Access Services Division, the Librarian I will have
responsibilities in two Access Services programs: the Deaf Services Center
and the Library on Wheels (the Library's senior outreach bookmobile.) For
the Deaf Services Center, the librarian will provide reference assistance,
and other services to clients who are deaf or hard of hearing, their
families and associates, and professionals within the deaf and hard of
hearing community. For Library on Wheels and homebound patrons, the
librarian will select materials for purchase and provide direct public
service including reader's advisory. Duties for both programs include:
working with staff in planning, publicizing, executing and evaluating
programs, activities and events designed to provide information about the
Library's outreach services; promoting productive relations with community
agencies; supervising subordinate staff; and performing other job-related
duties.
