Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) Fellowships for
Regional Research 2001-2002

Open to U.S. doctoral and postdoctoral scholars proposing research in the
fields of humanities, social sciences, or allied natural sciences. Research
should have regional significance in the Middle East, subsaharan Africa,
and/or South Asia, and must be conducted in more than one country, at least
one of which hosts a participating American overseas research center.
Fellowship tenure must be of at least three months' duration. Eight small
grants of up to $6,000 will be awarded, each of which carries an additional
$3,000 for travel expenses. Deadline: Dec. 31, 2000

2001 WARA/WARC Collaborative Scholars-in-Residence Fellowship Program

The West African Research Center in Dakar, Senegal, is offering two (2)
fellowships, each of which will support a pair of researchers (one
researcher based in a West African institution and one based in a North
American institution). The two pairs of researchers will spend 2-3 months
at the Center as scholars-in-residence in order to collaborate on their
joint project.

The American Research Center in Egypt:

The U.S. State Department Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
funds fellowships available to pre-doctoral candidates who will be in the
all-but-dissertation stage at the beginning of tenure; and to post-doctoral
scholars.  Restricted to U.S. citizens.  Minimum  stay of three months.

The National Endowment for the Humanities makes available 2-3 fellowships
for post-doctoral scholars with a minimum stay of four months.
Restrictions apply.

The Samuel H. Kress Foundation funds the Kress Fellowship in Egyptian Art
and Architecture, an annual prize given to a pre-doctoral candidate of any
nationality.

The William P. McHugh Memorial Fund provides the McHugh Award, a small
grant given to a graduate student from any nation to encourage the study of
Egyptian geoarchaeology and prehistory.

Deadlines: November 1, 2000 for the receipt of application and accompanying
