Memorial Library, a member of the General Library System of the University
of Wisconsin-Madison campus, is seeking applications for a full-time, one
year fixed term, renewable European History Librarian, (Academic
Librarian/Sr. Academic Librarian).  Salary range: $42,000 minimum.
Benefits include 22 vacation days, sick leave, group health and life
insurance and state retirement plan.

REQUIREMENTS:  MLS or equivalent degree/experience, and a graduate degree
in European History.  Collection development and management experience;
reference or other public service experience; knowledge of North American
collection development and management practices; familiarity with Internet
access and resources and the role of electronic information in teaching and
research programs.  Excellent reading knowledge of German and French
required and reading knowledge of additional western European languages
preferred.  Strong commitment to public service; commitment to cooperative
collection development among peer institutions; commitment to collaborating
with library staff in rapidly changing environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:  Assessing and developing scholarly print and electronic
resources pertaining to all periods of European History to 1945 exclusive
of Slavic speaking areas and the Iberian peninsula;  assessing user needs;
designing and implementing service programs; including but not limited to:
insturcting students and faculty in the use of the local and remote print
and electronic resources; providing general and specialized reference
service on a regularly scheduled basis.

specialized reference service on a regularly scheduled basis.

This position reports to the Associate Director for Collection Development
and Preservation and works closely with the head of the Memorial Library
Reference Department.
