The Energy Department says the United States depends on Africa for 18
percent of its petroleum imports. That percentage is growing rapidly. The
biggest African producer is Nigeria.
NPR's Steve Inskeep traveled to Nigeria for two weeks to see firsthand a
country of increasing importance to America's oil-driven economy. Every
weekday this week NPR's Morning Edition will air Steve Inskeep Nigeria
report. Wisconsin Public Radio carries Morning Edition first time at 4:00 AM
weekday mornings and a rebroadcast at 6:00am on the Classical Music channel-
FM 88.7 in the Madison Area.
