Dr. Kunene,

I suppose I should note that my request to meet with you is basically for
historical perspective, though from a personal angle. Also, I am not
suggesting that apartheid continues to exist (though while living in
Namibia, I read articles in S. African newspapers and heard comments on
talk shows where it was implied that "economic" apartheid continues to be
administered in some countries). I confess I am quite ignorant of these
matters.

Even though I asked not to be presented with a thesis, I have changed my
mind and would gratefully accept some suggestions for reading material that
specifically represents the Black African's point of view (I have read some
White African authors who believe they can do this, which I find curious at
best). I have also read some books and articles and theses published in
Africa by Black Africans, but would appreciate your recommendations due to
my lack of a frame of reference.

Being an Anglo American, my ability to comprehend is obviously limited, but
I also have friends who are interested in genuinely learning more about
their African ancestry and the areas of common ground shared between
present day sub-Saharan Africans and African Americans. And through this
learning process, relationships with my friends will broaden.

As you can no doubt ascertain, I am not very articulate. Sometimes my
words do a disservice to my thoughts. My apologies. Unfortunately, since
I am already middle aged, this condition may not be improved upon much.

Sincerely, Brian Richardson

Sorry for the typo in my previous email: that's "Delehanty"
