UW Global Health Seminar Series
"Beating the Drum Loudly: Uganda's Response to HIV/AIDS"
Cindy Haq, MD
Professor of Family Medicine and Population Health Sciences
Director, Global Health Program
Wednesday, September 14, 2005
5:00-6:00pm
Health Sciences Learning Center: Room 1309
Free parking in lots 63 and 85, near the HSLC (after 4:30pm).
Students, faculty, staff, and community members welcome.
Uganda has realized the most significant decline in HIV prevalence of
any country worldwide through tremendous efforts in nearly all
sectors of society. The country is now scaling up voluntary testing,
counseling and treatment programs. Dr. Haq recently served as a
visiting professor at Makerere University in Kampala and worked with
Mr. John Liu, a film maker based in Beijing, to create this 25 minute
film that documents successful public and community health responses
to the epidemic. Discussion and questions will be welcomed.
The Global Health Seminar Series exists to raise awareness, stimulate
interest, and bring visibility to global health efforts underway at
the University of Wisconsin, and to provide opportunities for
networking and development of new global health initiatives. The
Global Health Program is a collaborative initiative of the schools of
Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Veterinary Medicine and International
Studies. The program mission is to develop and support international
health curricula, research, and service programs to contribute to
health improvements throughout the world.
