March 3 (Wednesday)
This is just a reminder that this week's Sandwich Seminar presenter is Dr.
Katama Mkangi. Mkangi ran for president as the KNC (Kenya National
Congress) chairman in the 1997 elections. This is a rare opportunity for us
to speak with someone so personally involved in African politics. Dr.
Mkangi is presenting "Presidential Elections in Kenya" on Wednesday, March
3 at 12 noon in room 206 Ingraham Hall.  

March 4 (Thursday)
Cassandra Chambliss, graduate student in the Department of African
Languages and Literature, will present "The Innocent Persecuted Heroine and
(Mis)use of the Tale Type" in her department's Graduate Student Colloquium
Series. 
12 noon, Room 1418 Van Hise Hall. 

March 5 (Friday)
Dr. Ademola Iyi-Eweka will perform "Stories from Nigeria and Benin" at 7:30
p.m. at Borders Book Shop West. This presentation is part of Borders'
Storytelling for Adults Series. 

March 17 (Wednesday)
Femi Osofisan, Professor of Drama at the University of Ibadan will present
"Wole Soyinka and the Contemporary Theatre in Nigeria" at the Sandwich
Seminar, Room 205 Ingraham Hall, 12 noon.

March 19  
Joy Kwesiga (Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Makerere University, Uganda)
"The Changing Women's Movement in Uganda" International Gender Studies
Circle Colloquium:  Women and Human Rights, 12 Noon, 105 Ingraham Hall

March 24 (Wednesday)    	
Susan O'Brien, Ph.D. candidate in African History, UW-Madison will present
"Pilgrimage, Power, and Identity: the Role of the Hajj in the Lives of
Nigerian Hausa Bori Adepts" for the African Studies Program Sandwich
Seminar, 12 noon, Room 206 Ingraham Hall.

March 31 (Wednesday)
Omar Sougou, Professor of African Literature at the Université Gaston
Berger de Saint Louis, Senegal, and Fulbright Scholar, UW-Madison
Department of African Languages and Literature will present "The Issue of
Language in African Literature Revisited", 12 noon, Room 206 Ingraham Hall.
