The problem here is that you are assuming that "saving beats" is
a good thing, as if each heart has an allotment of beats, and you
are using yours up more slowly.  As far as I know there is no
evidence for any such thing, however.  The slower heartbeat is a
consequence of the heart having become enlarged from much aerobic
work.  But the size of a heart is not an indicator of its health.
