Subject: Accessible Nature Center (long)

<snip--want to look at your website, but DNS is down. :( )

Something that has been bothering me for a long time is a subconscious
attitude I've noticed in the environmental community. They have been so
ingrained with the idea that humankind has destroyed the environment, they
sometimes tend to forget that humans are part of the environment and belong
here too -- just like the peregrine falcon. This is a terribly misplaced
concern, IMHO, and contributes to some of our difficulties. We're out there
pounding the beat for equality, and they're out their pushing the idea --
unconsciously -- that our species is a lower life form.

Funny you should mention this Betty. I'm writing an article (on spec) for
"Sierra" magazine that explores the (sometimes rocky) relationships between
farmers/ranchers and enviros. I'll let you know when I get a pub date.

Anyway, in response to my query about writing the article, the editor had
the same scathing remarks about environmentalists bashing their own kind and
was quite concerned about backlash from the middle-ground (where decisions
are actually made about these issues).

Watch "Krat's Kreature's", a PBS afterschool nature show for kids. The
homonid bashing is quite scary.
