This only occurred to me tonight. So, speculating, run with me on this
one........................................

The hyperinsulinaemia over many years leads to decreased insulin sensitivity
(definitely)....
Then one goes paleo, the weight drops. Then the weight stabilises but you're
still overweight. @!#$%&!

So, the reason you can't drop your weight is because you're still
hyperinsulinaemic due to the decreased insulin sensitivity, and your carb
intake.

So, the level at which your weight loss stops is a measure of how much of
insulin sensitivity you lost??????????????

So the only way put off the plateau is to low carb (and low glycemic index)
it, to get your insulin levels down. But maybe take a little carbo, not
zero. Extremes never seem to work. Mind you, carbs aren't essential, only
protein and fat are.

Or, ugh, to perform physical exercise which also increases your insulin
sensitivity. How barbaric.

I must admit, that I have quite a high carb intake. If fact when I started
paleo, my carb intake hardly changed. I was eating lots of fruit and sweet
potatoes. I also do think that's maybe not a bad thing the first couple of
weeks as it reduces the shock on the system perhaps, although I'd love to
hear what others have found (especially you lurkers (particularly the book
writers!)). I kept my high carb paleo until Loren Cordain lectured in
October, then reduced a little (and started eating organ meats once or twice
weekly). This led to a 3 kg weigh drop (7lb). More recently, I've read The
Omega Diet and I'm trying to increase that (so I'm on a Paleomega diet
now!)(feel great), but still more high carb than the gurus (inc
L.C.)indicate.

Damn the luck, I'll have to do what the gurus say. I always like doing
things a little bit different. But then so do all you guys- and don't say
otherwise 'cos I know it's a lie- because otherwise you damn well wouldn't
be here on this list trying to be cavemen (and I especially mean those who
spend all day in the bollocks). Now, ain't it the truth.

Ben :-)
