Dear Listmates,

Here is my summary of information sent to me. I want to thank everyone
who replied. I will send any new information I amy still receive and
anything else I learn upon my return.

Elaine (Montreal)

Gan Shmuel, Haifa, Tveria(Tiberias) and Nazerath are the ones located in
the Northern part of Israel. I don't know about the Sawarma itself (on
the street it usually comes in a pita bread not on a plate - so that's a
problem). I don't know anything about Jordan.

The weird names you'll see are names of streets or stores that
I couldn't translate - so I just wrote them in Latin letters. The first
few words in each section are the name of the store.

1. "Duchan Gan Shmuel"
Location: In a Mall at the enterance to Kibbutz Gan Shmuel (on the
Hadera-Afula Road - also called Wadi Ara road. When your'e driving from
the direction of Afula, it is right after the turn to Pardes-Hanna).

This is your best source for gf food - in the center of this food store
there is a special "health food" area. It is devided to different
sections - and one of them is a gluten free section. The gluten free
section also has a variety of frozen prepared foods. The section is
managed by a woman named Mirta Oren who is a mother of a Celiac son - she
is happy to help and advice and her phone number (7:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m.
is 06 632 0892 it's a cell phone).

This store is open Sunday-Thursday 7:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.; Friday 7:00
a.m. - 5:00 p.m.; Saturdays and Holydays 8:00 a.m. - 10:00 p.m.

"There is a grocery store near Caesaria (I don't remember the name) that
has a gasoline station attached to it that has a wonderful gluten-free
section run by a woman with a celiac child. It's on the road to one of
the Arab cities. I wish I could think of the name, but I can't. They
have pita and cinamon buns that were to die for. I took them and had
them toasted in the restaurants I ate in. They lasted about 2-3 days
unrefrigerated. Try the Israeli celiac group for the name. It is well
worth the effort to go there."
