With the advent of xp the game plan of ms is clear. As they clearly say,
they want to rent only software in the future. Following past practices,
in a couple of years, any support for non xp versions of windows and xp
based applications will disappear, designed to force upgrading of course.
Also, as has been continued to be done, older versions of ms applications
cann't use files produced with current versions, try using an office xp
spreadsheet in win 95 with office 97; also to force an upgrade. What can
one do? Corel and lotus still produce office suite type products, ie.
databases, spreadsheets, word processors, etc., and they will work on what
you have already. So, get off the ms treadmill and take back control of
your computing; vote with your pocketbook.
