PI've been using electronic payment methods for more than 10 years. I
can't imagine paying my bills any other way. Before that I used to have
to go through a complicated process of typing out a check and verifying
the results with an Optacon. No so for years now as I say.
The biggest limitation, not that it is really a limitation, of electronic
payments is that a few eople you pay don't see to be able to process
payments made in this fashion.
Typically when you mail in a payment, you mail in a check with some sort
of payment statement. With online payments, either an electronic transfer
is done or a paper check with your account information is sent. In the
second case, as I say, it sometimes takes a bit of time for the
organization to get things right.
The worst case I recall was when my phone service was handled by GTE. It
took them almost a month each time I made a payment to rrocess it.
Finally I found an alternative to the billing address I had originally
been given and the problem went away.
Do you have any other info about the bill payment from Fidelity? I have
an account with them but the only bill payment I know about from them
costs $4.95 a month.
I use Citibank myself where bill payment is included with the account at
no extra charge.
