Which firewire card are you using? You did not say.

I believe that the Matrox DV card will do the job faster.

As far as processors go, the faster the better for video editing, and more
ram is always better.

The last system integrations I did for video were using anywere from 256 to
1 gig of ram.

I never had a chance to try AMD products in a video station.

There is a site which runs many lists, much like this one, all about NLE
editing (Non Linear Editing).

It is: http://www.pigsfly.com/.

You may also want to take a look at Matrox's higher end Digital Editing
products at:
http://www.matrox.com/videoweb/home.htm.

Another company is Pinnacle Systems, you will find them at:
http://www.pinnaclesys.com/default.html.

My best advice after doing an internship in the industry is this:

- Make sure that you buy what you need and want. I heard too many customers
complain about spending too much money and not getting the
requested/required result i.e. they spent too little or too much and were
not working effectively.

- If you go the route of higher end products, you most likely will have to
buy from a dealer. MAKE SURE that the dealer knows what he is doing and that
he CAN help you if need be. I saw too many people left out to dry by their
dealers, and were not getting the support that they needed from them.

- Do as much research as possible, you may also want to go to a trade show
like NAB 2000, you will find them at: http://www.nab.org/.

Subject: [PCBUILD] Video editing workstation recommandation

I need some advice.

I do some work with Adobe Premiere, a Digital 8 Camcorder, a firewire card
and computer and would like to upgrade my pc. The work is done in DV format
(720X640 30fps). This is not for professional works but almost. Does someone
know some sites that publish benchmark about video editing workstation?

Another question that I try to answer is: would it be better to use pentium
III or Athlon that care a new set of SSE Instructions or just take the
faster processor I can get?

I Would also be interrested to know if some cheap addon card can help
accelerate the movie rendering. Then what could help?

I was thinking about the following 2 systems:

      Amd Athlon 500
          or
      Abit Bp6 + Dual Celeron 400

I already have 30Gig of Hard Disk, 128 Meg of ram and a 4Meg S3 Video card.
I also thinking to add a Matrox G400 32M Dual Head Video card.

Best Regards
