Sounds like it is definately a system rescource problem.The soundblaster 16
is noted for this.What you could also try is assigning the rescources in the
bios.Also,you may verify the cards recources and settings with a diagnostic
utility found on Creatives support pages which will identify the "Hidden"
conflict.This is a common problem with the SB 16.One way to verify the
problem is to check the full duplex both in device manager and by opening up
two sound recorders and trying to record and playback features at the same
time.Another little trick with the SB16 is to move the ram chips arround
furthest away from the processor(don't realy know why it works but it has
fixed a few for me...lol)Before you go searching for the utility at Creative
dont bother cause they moved it,Try contacting them for it for it works
quite well.The other thing is if you are using a motherboard with the 440bx
chipset on it there is a new set of enu drivers for it so if so check with
Intel.
