I think there has to be a line drawn between adapting to a diet over
time, and really thriving on it. Again, I am not coming from a
scientific background, and am a newbie, but here are my thoughts on this
subject. Lets say, for arguments sake, that I am taken hostage by a
bunch of crazed zealots, and kidnapped to some remote village in the
Middle East. I can't practice my paleorthodoxy. They deny me pemmican
and definately bacon (woe to Allah), but force me to eat pita bread,
chickpea paste and yogurt. So, over time , my body and taste buds may
adapt to years of too much tabouli salad. But am I really thriving?
Are my hormone levels normal? Is my immune system kicking butt? How's
my fertility? (and I'm not talking fertile crescents, here......) Are
my offspring of the strongest constitution? In fact, some of the
answers to these questions may not even be played out in my lifetime.
So, I think this whole notion of two weeks on a diet as being the
parameters of judging is efficacy is frankly, premature, and missing the
whole point of the concepts in Neanderthin.
That's just my two drachmas worth, for today.
