Dear Listmates,

I posted the following question some weeks ago to the list:

I am wondering if people on the list have information regarding the
prevalence of abdominal (inguinal or femoral) hernias in celiacs. I have
had two about 10 years ago and am now getting symptoms that suggest
another (right side only, upper thigh and groin pain, aching relieved by
lying on left side, improves overnight but begins soon after rising). I
was wondering if we are more prone to hernias and would be interested to
hear from people who have had them and of their symptoms.

The replies (only about 6-7) indicated that some had had more than one
hernia, some had not thought it to be related to celiac at all, others
thought perhaps longterm nutritional deficiencies could predispose to
hernias, and also that symptoms could be indicative of things other than
hernia and it should be checked out throroughly.

Hope this is helpful, if somewhat brief!

Thanks kindly,
Lissy
