I wonder about this also.

This morning I found a colony of ants, including a whole lot of eggs, when
I lifted up an old sheet covering a garden bed. I tried one of the ants,
but as Hans noted, they are not very palatable. This suggests to me that
perhaps they shouldn't be eaten, but I really don't know. Anyone have any
idea? The fact that bears can apparently cope with the formic acid doesn't
necessarily mean that we can.

I also tried a couple of the eggs, which didn't have any discernible
flavour. I think that I feel more inclined to eat ants in that form.

When I went back a few hours later with the intention of harvesting some
more eggs, they had all been moved away ... :(
Will have to be a bit more astute next time if I want to get a decent meal. :)

Regards,
Barbara
