what is recommended for a dual 800MHz Intel slot-1 motherboard?
...esp. if I don't want to buy rambus memory--it's WAAAY to expensive for its
returns.
i am looking for stability, plus reliability/longevity.
also, is there a significant performance increase using the 133MHz memory
speed? that would indicate that the VIA 133A chipset is a better idea (is uses
PC133 ram, unlike the i820/840 chipsets, which require rambus).
Checking anandtech, it seems the opposite is true; for tests across different
processors, the 440BX beats-out the VIA 133A chipset, at least for single
slot-1 configurations (?!!) ...for example, check out the intel 1gigHz review
at: http://www.anandtech.com/showdoc.html?i=1191&p=10
does anybody have any hands-on experience w/ this?
the choices are:
440BX chipset:
Tyan S1837UANG Thunderbolt GX Dual Slot-1
Epox BXB-S BX Dual Processor Slot-1
asus p2b-d
Tekram P6B40D-A4 , SS7
...or VIA 133A chipset:
S1834 Tiger
TIA! daVe
