I would attribute that ear infection after ingesting the milk to the
milk as well. We went dairy free with my first child after he had
repeated ear infections and tubes placed at 9 months. The tubes not
only did not help they caused bleeding and continual problems until they
fell out. The only thing that ended the ear infections was when I took
him (and myself) completely off of dairy products at 10 months. He can
eat a small amount of dairy and gluten now but will get very snotty and
will develop an ear infection if he eats dairy with any regularity even
still (he's almost 10 now).

At the risk of starting the debate about medical proof etc I will say
that not all reactions to dairy are the classic allergic reactions. Ear
infections, asthma, respitory problems are all associated with dairy
consumption for some of us. I have two friends whose children were
diagnosed dairy allergic and at one year pronounced cured. Both
children (now over two) are constantly ill with ear infections, stomach
problems, & asthmatic type coughing but the doctors say now way is it
related to milk. Of course I don't know for sure but its interesting
that these problems stared after milk was reintoduced.
