Absentee landlords hold the choicest agricultural land and commercial real
estate in Zimbabwe some of who are in the Lords and Commons. I cannot see
how the issue can be resolved peacefully without the active involvement of
the British Government. Outright confiscation is not the way to go and I
hope you will agree with me on this point. The question now is how can
peaceful transfer be achieved. The Lancaster Agreement, as stated earlier,
has a willing seller/willing buyer provision, which is a good starting
point. Perhaps, I have faith in the Blaire Government because of the
previous successor governments. What ever happened to Robin Cook’s ethical
foreign policy? Is it dead? Sidi Sanneh
